A woman was helped out of the mud on Burnham-On-Sea beach on Wednesday afternoon (November 16th) after getting into difficulty.
BARB Search & Rescue and Burnham Coastguards were called out at 12.50pm when the woman raised the alarm that she was in difficulty at the southern end of Burnham Beach.
Burnham Coastguard Officer Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The lady had been walking her dog when it had run off towards the water and disappeared from view.”
“She’d gone out to try and reach the dog, but since that end of the beach has a steep drop into the estuary, she was worried the dog had become stuck or fallen in.”
“The lady had encountered a soft patch and sunk downwards – she did the right thing and stayed still until we helped her back up the beach.”
BARB’s Spirit Of Lelaina II hovercraft was also launched as a precaution to help reach the lady. Her dog was also found safe and well.
Coastguards were also called out later in the afternoon to reports of a dog being spotted on Stert Island, but it turned out to be a false alarm with good intent.
