Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has visited the town’s emergency services as they dealt with a huge wartime bomb found on Stert Island.
David Heathcoat-Amory met the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team and the crew of the Burnham Hovercraft, operated by local charity BARB.
Mr Heathcoat-Amory said: “I have the upmost respect for both our Military Services and for voluntary groups such as the Burnham hovercraft rescue team.”
He added: “These brave men and women do a tremendous job, and are often very much undervalued and not given the recognition they deserve.”
“I am glad I was visiting the town whilst plans to make the bomb safe were in progress and was able to meet with both groups.”

The bomb was safely detonated on Saturday morning after a three-day operation involving the help of numerous emergency services.
