Members of Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard and the town’s rescue hovercraft charity BARB have raised hundreds of pounds for a prostate cancer charity by taking part in a moustache-growing fundraiser.
The crewmembers were among the many thousands of sportsmen, celebrities and fundraisers across the world who took part in ‘Movember’, where men left their upper lips unshaven for the whole of the month.
“We are really pleased to have helped raise awareness about prostate cancer and also raised £600,” Burnham Coastguard Station Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“There were over a dozen crewmen taking part here in Burnham – and two women who painted on moustaches! We’re really grateful for all the kind support from local people who have backed us.”
Funds from Movember went to the Prostate Cancer charity and the Institute of Cancer Research. Last year, the campaign attracted nearly 450,000 willing moustache-growers across the globe, who between them raised £48.5million.
