Members of Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard and the town’s rescue hovercraft charity BARB are sporting new looks this month as they join the ranks of moustache-growing supporters of a charity campaign.
The crewmembers are among the many thousands of sportsmen, celebrities and fundraisers across the world who are taking part in ‘Movember’, where men leave their upper lips unshaven for the whole of this month.
“By taking part, we hope to raise money for a very good cause and also raise awareness about prostate cancer,” Burnham Coastguard Station Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“There are around a dozen crewmembers taking part here in Burnham – we’ve also had a lot of support from those wanting to give towards the cause.”
Last year, the campaign attracted nearly 450,000 willing moustache-growers across the globe, who between them raised £48.5million. Funds from Movember go to the Prostate Cancer charity and the Institute of Cancer Research.
