A Burnham-On-Sea driver who bought a car while banned and then took several friends on a high-speed journey of over 110mph before crashing has been jailed for 32 months.
Matthew Barrett, 25, of Mendip Way in Burnham was jailed at Taunton Crown Court last week after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
At the court hearing, the judge heard that his vehicle had reached a speed of 114mph at one point during the June 9th journey near Yeovil, before he lost control of his vehicle, overturned and came to a stop.
A passenger inside the car received multiple injuries and was rushed to hospital with a bleed on the brain.
Mr Barrett received four-month (concurrent) sentences for driving while disqualified and drink driving and a five years and four months driving ban. He was also ordered to pay a statutory surcharge of £170.
Harry Ahuja, defending, said his client was remorseful and had realised the serious danger he’d put his friends in.
