Motorist banned from driving after death of Burnham man on mobility scooter

-

A motorist who struck a mobility scooter, causing the death of its rider at a busy road junction in Burnham-On-Sea, has been banned from driving.

Martin Gough, 59, of Walford Cross near Taunton, appeared before Taunton Magistrates this week where he was sentenced.

At a previous hearing, he pleaded guilty to causing the death of Anthony Martin by driving a Nissan Navara at the junction of Adam Street and Oxford Street without due care and attention on March 8th, 2018.

Anthony Martin, aged in his 80s, was on a mobility scooter and collided with the 4X4 and suffered a serious head injury. Sadly, despite being air-lifted to hospital, he died from his injuries later that day, as reported here.

The judge disqualified Martin Gough from driving for 12 months and ordered him to undertake 100 hours of unpaid community work.

Magistrates also ordered him to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £85.
