17 year-old arrested after motorbike seized in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Police in Burnham-On-Sea have seized a motorbike and arrested a 17 year-old youth in a fresh crackdown on anti-social use of vehicles in the town.

It comes after complaints from the public that motorcycles were being ridden in an anti-social manner around the town.

Burnham police and Sedgemoor District Council’s CCTV operators identified the 17-year-old youth, who has been arrested for road traffic offences.

Sergeant Ian Kennett said: “The message is clear. The police will target anti-social drivers or riders, seize their vehicles and deal with any offences positively. This will be expensive for those people who disregard the law.”

“I would like to thank the public for providing the community intelligence that helps us to make the area a safer place and also our CCTV colleagues who monitor the cameras and provide us with valuable information and evidence.”

The offender has also been given a written warning under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002. This means that if the offender drives any vehicle in an anti-social manner in the next 12 months, the vehicle can be seized and the police have powers to search premises to recover such vehicles if they are not stopped at the time.

Community Safety Officer Kristy Blackwell added: “Sedgemoor District Council is very proud of the service that its CCTV operators provide and this is just one example of how partnership working continues to reduce anti-social behaviour in the district.”
