A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the opening of Burnham-On-Sea’s new Morrisons supermarket this morning (Monday, July 6th).
The supermarket’s General Manager Steve Pearson and bakery assistant Debbie Derrick officially opened the new-look store in Pier Street at 9am in front of a long queue of over 150 shoppers.
Mr Pearson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Over the past weeks, the team has been working night and day to ensure that customers enjoy shopping Morrisons-style from day one.”
“Opening the doors and welcoming the shoppers of Burnham was the reward for all the training and preparation.”
The new store, which employs 135 staff, includes a ‘Morrisons Market Street’, a unique collection of individual fresh food shops, including a butcher, baker and fishmonger.
The first shoppers through the door were Brian and Yvonne Evans (pictured right), who are on holiday from Coventry in the West Midlands.
“It’s a wonderful looking store. We’re looking forward to having a good look around,” Brian told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The supermarket, previously a Somerfield, has received a multi-million pound revamp over the last few months in the run-up to the opening day.
