Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has this week met campaigners battling to save the town’s Morrisons store from closure.
The town’s MP James Heappey met with two residents – Gaynor Brown and Lyn Salvidge – who are trying to get Morrisons to re-think the closure of its Burnham store with the loss of 100 jobs at the end of November.
Mr Heappey told Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards: “I do not want to see any businesses closing in our community and I especially do not want to see jobs lost, so I welcome the hard work of those campaigning to keep Morrisons in Burnham-On-Sea.”
“I have committed to helping them engage with Morrisons and the owner of the property so that the voice of local residents is heard in this decision.”
He added: “Morrisons appear to be turning their back on a thriving town centre benefitting from footfall generated by residents and tourists alike.”
“Whatever is driving their decision, Burnham’s local economy is growing and if Morrisons don’t wish to make money here, I’m sure there will be no shortage of businesses that do.”
