A new multi-million pound housing development in Highbridge has been formally opened this week.
The Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Cllr Ian Dyer, and the Mayor of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge, Cllr Michael Clarke, officially cut a ribbon to open the 62 new, affordable homes at Morland Chase on the site of the former Morland Industrial Park.
The homes were built by Knightstone Housing, in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council, E G Carter & Co Ltd and Clarke Willmott LLP.
Knightstone says over the past few years it has invested over £13million in Highbridge, to build 120 new, affordable homes through the re-development of brownfield sites.
This investment represents Knightstone’s biggest in the town for a number of years. Sedgemoor District Council also invested £1.6million in the redevelopments.
Barrie Dale, Vice Chair of Knightstone, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re committed to building new homes and investing in communities across Somerset and the West of England. In 2015/16, we built 472 more homes across the region, to address the clear need for more affordable housing.”
Cllr Ian Dyer, Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, added: “The Council are extremely pleased to be involved in this scheme as a major partner. With the help of many Sedgemoor staff including the Affordable Housing Enabling team, Planning Policy, Development Management and others, this project was completed ahead of schedule and is a credit to all involved.”
Knightstone Housing welcomed residents to their new homes and the community with an event at King Alfred School during the day.
