Controversial plans to demolish an industrial park in Highbridge and replace it with 62 new homes have been unveiled this week.
Developer Property Link is seeking full planning permission to build 62 dwellings on the site of Morland Industrial Park in Morland Road.
The plans comprise of two four-bedroom homes, 27 three-bedroom homes, 27 two-bedroom properties and 6 one-bedroom homes.
Several businesses located at the industrial park told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday that they are concerned about the plans.
“There is a lot of uncertainty – we could have to go through expensive moves to other locations to stay in business,” said one businessman, who asked not to be named.
Richard Matthews from nearby Morland Community Hall – which appears on the plans to be outside the area to be redeveloped – told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have been kept completely in the dark about the plans.”
The scheme includes the formation of roads, 116 car parking spaces and landscaping, plus the demolition of existing buildings.
The planning application acknowledges that 35 people are employeed on the site at the moment.
Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department is currently inviting comments on the scheme, with comments being accepted until August 20th. The planning application number is 11/13/00078.
