Couple’s five decades of involvement with Moose Lodge is praised

-

A Burnham-On-Sea couple’s half a century of involvement with Moose International was marked this week with a special presentation.

Peter and Joy Shannon were both handed certificates to mark their 50 years of involvement during the Burnham lodge’s annual Christmas dinner on Monday.

Joy was presented with a 50-year certificate by National Ladies Circle President Ann Hall while Peter was presented with his 50-year certificate by past Grand Governor Trevor Savage.

Peter and Joy first joined the organisation in December 1961 in Weymouth and whilst there enjoyed putting on plays, having fun and visiting different lodges.

From Weymouth they moved to Abingdon where they joined Oxford Lodge. Thirteen years ago they moved to Somerset to be near Joy’s family when they joined the Burnham-On-Sea Lodge.

Over the years Joy has served five times as a Lady President with Peter by her side as Governor.

National Ladies’ Circle President Ann Hall said: “This is a rare achievement, and they have both given so much.”

This week’s presentation had been kept a closely guarded secret up until the last moment.

Moose International is a fraternal organization based on family values and raises money for charities while providing support to each other.

Membership of Moose is open to anyone aged 21 or over and details are available by calling 01278 784645. The Lodge meets on the fourth Thursday of each calender month at 7.30pm in Berrow Village Hall.
