A group of Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers are set to take part in this weekend’s 26-mile London Moonwalk in aid of Somerset Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
17,000 people will be taking part in Saturday’s event and among them will be Holly MacBeth, Somerset Breakthrough Breast Cancer Committee Secretary, and ‘The Dollies’.
They are a local team made up of Kathryn Pearson and Holly MacBeth, who completed the half-moon 13.8 miles walk last year, and have this year roped in Kathryn’s sister Bec Attoe and Holly’s close friend Victoria Mackenzie to join them in the Full Moon Marathon.
The team have been in training since November last year and completed 21 miles on Sunday 27th April in five hours, 45 minutes which they were very pleased with. Their target is 7hrs in total for the 26 mile Full Moon marathon walk!
Holly said: “We have all been working hard training both together and individually for this event and we look forward to completing our own personal challenges all in aid of this amazing charity.”
Holly also said how they would like to thank their sponsor The Batch Country Hotel in Lympsham who have kindly covered the girls traveling and accommodation expenses to and from London and also provided training hoodies for the girls.
Since the first Moonwalk in 1998 this unique challenge has brought together over 250,000 women and men united in the goal of raising money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes.
With 1 in 8 women in the UK expected to experience some form of breast cancer, the organisers are passionate about encouraging the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and active lifestyle by joining the walking challenge.
“We are so lucky to have local support from our sponsor, friends and family, without them we wouldn’t have had the time to train or to be able to do this. It really is a community effort not just our little team!” added Holly.
