Highbhridge club’s gymnasts scoop medal wins in regional contest

Eight gymnasts from Highbridge-based Monarchs Gymnastics Club are celebrating after earning medals.

The club was invited to take part in the Honiton Invitation competition and came away with a medal haul.

Billy Marshall and his partner Hayden Skelding – the youngest gymnast from Monarchs at 6 years-old – won gold medals and had a fantastic competition in the grade 3 mens pairs in of their age group.

The girls all did extremely well, competing against some of the top clubs in London, Wales and all over the UK.

Shauna Cross and Ellie Frost performed in the grade 3 section and Ellie and Jessica Smith and Natalia Maciejczyk also competed in the grade 3 womens pair section.

Jennifer Marshall and Evie Tissington competed at level 4 and did very well and will both be competing in Germany later this month, their first international.

“The coaches, gymnasts and their families found it to be a very well organised and extremely friendly competition and hope to be invited again next year,” said Monarchs spokeswoman Mandy Warburton.

Monarchs is taking a team of 36 gymnasts to Mainz in Germany to compete in their annual international competition and then next month will be taking a team of 20 to compete in the City of Bristol Invitational Competition, ending a very busy year for the club.

Monarchs have groups of toddlers and pre-school children, with four sessions a week during the daytime, as well as classes after school for those four years and over. More details are available here.
