Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge gymnasts succeed on national stage

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge gymnasts competed against teams from across the UK when they took part in a prestigious competition this month.

Seven gymnasts from Monarchs Gymnastics Club headed to the Pat Wade Classic in Stoke on Trent.

There were teams from all over the country taking part, some of whom have competed in European and world championships.

Monarchs’ Mandy Warburton told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Alice Kelson and Evie Tissington in the 12-18 years womens pairs group won Silver medals, along with team mates Joe Blake and Kian Hawkes in the 12-18 mens pair group also winning silver medals with both pairs putting in double somersaults and some fantastic catches and balances.”

“A huge well done goes to Eloise Baker, Heather Reed and Olivia Reed who were formed as a group eight weeks ago and did amazingly well and finished in 9th place in their balance routine and 12th overall.”

“Their coaches are looking forward to seeing what these young gymnasts can achieve in another eight weeks when they will be competing in the Scottish Open Championships.”

“Also exceedingly good news is that as a direct result from this competition the gymnasts have all been invited to compete in Italy next summer, however at a cost of almost £1000 each this is going to be a huge expense for their families as they also have the Scottish competition in January and the British Championships in February. We are therefore hoping to find some sponsorship or grants to get them there.”
