A Burnham-On-Sea couple starred in a popular Channel 4 cooking TV show at the weekend.
Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds – who are well known for running the town’s twice-yearly Food Festival – appeared in My Kitchen Rules.
The show puts teams of contestants competing against each other as they transform their homes into an instant restaurant, complete with theme and table decorations.
Beverley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Sarah and I set out to showcase our town and the great local food and drink produced here in Somerset. We hope that this came over in the final edit. They were filming from 7am to 2am on our day here in Burnham-On-Sea, this was cut down into a 45-minute programme. Between us we must have spent a month volunteering on the programme.”
Sarah added: “We couldn’t have done it without the people who helped us out; Bee, Mandy, Kay, Juliet, Sarah & Richard at Berrow Beef, Steve at Seafoods, Julie at Flowers & Things,Jane & Tanya, Duncan at Charlton Orchards, Kelly at The Wine Shop, Patrick at Riverford, Jacky at Wraxall Wines and Debbie at The Retreat.”
“All the social media comments about game playing by some of the competitors have amazed us; no doubt it made for better telly. They offered us an opportunity to represent our region’s food and we aimed to do that as best we could. Such a shame they cut all the product names. What we learned is that everything definitely isn’t as it seems on TV.”
Beverley added: “We still haven’t had time to watch the cook-off episode! We hope people enjoy the next stages of the competition as the cooks have to prepare food for more and more people in ever more challenging circumstances. We will be cheering on the other southwest teams from the sofa.”
