Missing woman found safe and well after search in Burnham area

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s emergency services were called out on Saturday afternoon (January 14th) to search for a missing person.

Crews from Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard and BARB Search & Rescue were tasked by Police to search several locations for the missing woman, who is known to walk her dog in the area.

BARB’s hovercraft, Polaris off-road vehicle and Burnham Coastguards searched the coastline between Burnham and Brean Down. And BARB’s inshore rescue boat was tasked with searching the banks of local rivers.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “The BARB hovercraft was launched with a Coastguard Mud Tech on-board, and the BARB Polaris Off Road Vehicle was also deployed with a Coastguard Rescue Officer onboard.”

“They performed a search along the beaches and around the sand dunes while the Coastguard Mobile Response Unit travelled to Brean Down with the rest of the team and started a foot search of the area.”

“The foot search concentrated on the lower road and along to the Fort and the when the Polaris had finished its search of the beach and dunes, it made its way up to the trigg point and along to the Fort.”

“After covering all our search area and with nothing found we were stood down to return to station to clean and restow the equipment.”

“This was a great multi-agency job and although the person wasn’t in the location the search went as planned.”

Police confirmed late on Saturday evening that she had been located and was safe.
