A huge search for a potential missing person was launched on Brean Down by rescue crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Weston on Thursday (October 22nd).
Police, Coastguards, RNLI lifeboats and crewmembers from Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue were called out soon after 1pm after a walker reported finding a discarded bicycle and helmet on the Down.
Crews searched the cliffs and a large area of the rocky outcrop for any sight of the person, and were also assisted by a Coastguard helicopter, but no-one was found.
“A multi-agency search of a large area of the Down was conducted to ensure no-one was in difficulty,” added a Coastguard spokesman.
“We always prefer to be called out to conduct searches like this if there is a possibility of someone being in difficulty.”
