A well-known Burnham-On-Sea businessman and former councillor has died at the age of 62.
Mike Turco, pictured, passed away last week after a short illness.
He was leader of Sedgemoor District Council between 1977 and 1979 and, in his role as the porfolio holder for leisure, oversaw the introduction of Burnham’s swimming pool and King Alfred School Sports Centre.
A well-known businessman, Mike owned a thriving financial services firm in Burnham town centre and was Chairman of the town’s Chamber of Trade for several years.
He was also a member of the selection panel that chose David Heathcoat-Amory as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Wells. He went on to become the treasurer of the local Conservative Association.
More recently, Mike was one of the leading names involved with the Save Our Swimming Pool campaign group where he was treasurer.
SOS group chairman Tom Ashton is among many in the town who have this week said he will be greatly missed.
Mr Turco’s funeral will be held at 11am on Tuesday March 4th in St Andrew’s Church, Burnham-On-Sea.
