This dramatic picture of the sea cascading over a lifeboat and tractor on Burnham-On-Sea beach has won a national award for a town photographer.
Mike Lang, a member of Burnham’s lifeboat team, has been recognised at the RNLI Photographer of the Year Awards.
He has been named Station Winner and also won the regional competition for the charity’s 2010 SOS Day.
The awards aim to celebrate photographs which reflect the life-saving work of the lifeboat charity.
Mike told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m delighted with the news, not just for me, but also for our lifeboat station and other volunteers.”
“The inshore lifeboat is usually recovered by tractor, however in rough weather or a strong onshore wind when the lifeboat is being pushed onto the beach, a net is used to catch and slow the lifeboat down.”
“I managed to capture the lifeboat just hitting the net before it was recovered safely.”
Eleanor Driscoll, RNLI film and image manager and head judge of the competition, said the standard of photos entered into the 2010 competition had been very high. “Mike’s photo was one of those that really stood out because it is such a stunning and vibrant image, capturing the lifeboat and support crew in action. It really demonstrates Mike’s skill as a photographer.”
