Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has been chosen to switch on Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas Lights this year.
The familiar face behind Somerset’s pop extravaganza – who is pictured here on the town’s beach last summer – will light up the town’s colourful display of festive lights on Saturday November 29th.
The venue for this year’s switch-on will move from Burnham High Street to Victoria Street and the switch-on ceremony will be held at 5pm, with a day of entertainment starting at 2.30pm.
Local folk group Jockstrap Ensemble will open the afternoon’s entertainmnt and this will be followed by choral entertainment from Curtain Call and big band Boulevard Swing. Father Christmas will also put in a special appearance.
The event is being organised by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade, and a reception for the group’s members will be held afterwards at the Princess Hall.
“We are delighted to have Michael as our special guest at this year’s switch-on,” said Alex Turco, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade, this week.
“We have made some changes to the event this year and it promises to be an excellent afternoon.”
