Burnham-On-Sea’s Methodist Church completes £90,000 roof refurb

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Methodist Church unveiled a £90,000 refurbishment of its roof this weekend.

The church in College Street welcomed Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor Bill Hancock, Mayoress Frances Hancock at a ceremony on Saturday morning (March 17th).

Churchgoers gathered to watch young Madox Winder, 3, the church’s youngest active member, formally unveil a plaque to mark the occasion.

Rev Steve Bennett thanked all those who had supported the 10-year project, especially Viridor Credits Environmental which gave £30,000.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Rev Bennett said: “It’s been a big project for us that has involved lots of people over many years.”

“We thank everyone who gave us funds towards the work, which has come from many sources including fundraising, gifts and legacies. Without Viridor’s support, though, it couldn’t have been completed.”

He added: “The new roof should protect the inside of the church for 100 years. We have replaced all the old roof areas where we had leaks.”

Vivienne Stock-Williams from Viridor Credits Environmental said the charity was “delighted” to support the project and congratulated the church team. Russ Palmer was also thanked for his work as the project’s architect.
