Met Office warns of violent thunderstorms in Burnham area on Saturday

-

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Saturday morning (June 7th), when violent thunderstorms are predicted to hit the Burnham-On-Sea area.

Saturday morning is forecast to be a washout, as an extreme weather front will sweep through the region.

The Met Office’s warning states that heavy, thundery rain is expected to affect the area.

The South West could be hit by extreme conditions, caused by warm, humid air being pulled northwards from France late on Friday and during Saturday. This will meet cooler air, triggering potentially violent thunderstorms.

“The public should be aware of the potential for localised flooding due to the intensity of these storms, although at this stage the location of the heaviest rainfall is uncertain. The public is advised to take extra care,” said a spokesman.

But it will at least be warm, as the hot air from the continent means Saturday temperatures will climb to 19 degrees. Forecasters predict that conditions will improve on Sunday in time for Burnham’s annual Jazz In The Park.
