A new peer support group for individuals who are experiencing mental health issues has been launched in Burnham-On-Sea this week.
Called the The Way4ward Club, the group has been set up by a group of local co-ordinators with the support of Rethink, a national mental health membership charity.
Suitable individuals will be referred to the group, based at Burnham’s BAY Centre in Cassis Close, via Rethink and the Community Mental Health Team as part of their recovery plan.
Ultimately, the aim is to help the individuals become free from isolation and prevent relapse. The coordinators have worked hard to fulfil their aims of having a community-based group with a full range of opportunities and activities.
Group volunteer Tracey Ridgeway told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The group will also help recognition of ‘The Time To Change’ campaign which aims to end discrimination faced by people with mental health issues.”
