Burnham-On-Sea.com has been crowned the region’s top Web site of 2006 by winning the coveted ‘Web Site of The Year’ award at the annual South West Media Awards.
At a glitzy awards ceremony in front of more than 200 top journalists, editors and reporters from across the region on Tuesday (June 6th), Burnham-On-Sea.com’s Web Manager, Mark Newman, received the top award.
The event saw more than 20 awards being presented to local newspapers, TV stations and journalists – but there was only one award for Websites.
And Burnham-On-Sea.com was the clear winner, according to the judges, who praised the site for its coverage of local news, and for being up-to-date, having a clear design, and also having a strong links with the community.
Mark was delighted to receive the award and said: “It’s a great honour to be presented with this award. For Burnham-On-Sea.com to be recognised as the leading Web site in the whole of the South West is superb.”
“No community Web site would be strong, though, without the backing of the community around it – and Burnham-On-Sea.com is certainly fortunate to have very strong support from the people of Burnham.”
“We are very grateful to everyone who visits the site, advertises, participates in our discussion forums and sends through news. This award should really be presented to all of you too!”
The South West Media Awards – which are sponsored by EDF Energy – are held annually to recognise the very best of the South West’s newspapers, Websites, radio stations and journalists – and competition was again tough this year.
A panel of judges comprising daily and weekly newspaper editors, a broadcast expert and keen-eyed photography professionals picked the cream of the crop from more than 200 entries.
In the Website Of The Year category, the entries were whittled down to just two sites: Burnham-On-Sea.com and ThisisExeter.co.uk.
The awards cover Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Click here for a full list of those organisations who were short-listed.
