Burnham-On-Sea Mayor backs classic car campaign

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor has this week backed a nationwide campaign supporting classic car owners.

Cllr Derick Cooper signed a special scroll during a short ceremony in Highbridge on Sunday (May 31st), as pictured, watched by local members of the Austin Ten Drivers’ Club.

“I’m a great supporter of classic cars and am keen to help their owners,” Derick told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Classic cars drivers could be asked to pay extra taxes in coming years or even be forced not to use certain roads, as in other countries, which I think would be wrong.”

The scroll that the Mayor signed is being taken around the country in order to gather the signatures of scores of civic dignitaries.

Organiser Alisdair Murray added: “We’re fighting for the right to keep our cars on the road and hope to stop the government making any changes to the current laws.”

Ten cars and 40 supporters attended Sunday’s signing ceremony at Alstone Road.
