Followers of Burnham-On-Sea fashion student Matt Bowkett were kept on the edge of their seats this week when, once again, he only just managed to survive on Sky One’s reality TV show Project Catwalk.
The 21-year-old from Stoddens Road just managed to scrape through to the last eight contestants on last week’s programme – and this week had an even more nail-biting time.
Tasked with creating a wedding dress for model Kate, pictured here, he struggled with the designs and used the wrong fabric at one stage.
The panel of judges – which includes model Liz Hurley – concluded that his design was “boring.”
She told him that he needed to stand up for himself and make sure that his opinions about designs were fully considered, especially if he felt they were not working.
Matt was left in the bottom two of the remaining eight contestants and faced the possibility of going home. Several of the contestants believed he should pack his bags.
But a very relieved Matt somehow survived another week and said he “wanted to put the show behind him and move on after a disappointing week.”
He goes through to the next episode of the TV series next Thursday when he’ll be among the final seven contestants.
Burnham-On-Sea.com exclusively reported in January how Matt is bidding for fashion stardom by appearing as a contestant on the TV series.
Sky One’s Project Catwalk gives young fashion designers the chance of a lifetime to have their collection shown at this year’s London Fashion Week. With £20,000 and a feature in Elle magazine up for grabs, the competition is intense.
Project Catwalk airs on Sky One at 8pm every Thursday. Burnham-On-Sea.com is following Matt’s progress during the series.
