The nerves were starting to show on the face of Burnham-On-Sea fashion student Matt Bowkett on Thursday night (February 2nd) when he only just managed to scrape through to the next round of Sky One’s reality TV show Project Catwalk.
As Burnham-On-Sea.com exclusively revealed last month, Matt, 21, of Stoddens Road, is bidding for fashion stardom by appearing as a contestant on the popular TV show.
After getting the thumbs-up from the judges in the first three episodes of the series, Matt only just managed to squeeze through to the last eight contestants on this week’s programme.
Presenter and judge Liz Hurley told him: “You need more confidence and could do better, but you’ve scraped through.”
Her comments came after a tense programme in which he was part of a three-person team designing a dress for music star Kelly Osbourne.
The pop star did not like the dress they created and the leader of the team – Lesley – was voted off by the judges.
But it was touch-and-go as to whether Matt would be voted off instead.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com after the show, he told us: “That was one of the most nerve-wracking episodes in the whole series… but just you wait to see what happens in next week’s programme!”
Matt was watching the show with 20 of his friends at Westminster University in London on Thursday, where he is studying a fashion degree.
“Every Thursday night about 20 or 30 of us get together to watch the programme. It’s a great atmosphere.”
He described working with Kelly Osbourne as “intruiging” and said that meeting her was “nerve-wracking.”
Project Catwalk gives young fashion designers the chance of a lifetime to have their collection shown at this year’s London Fashion Week. With £20,000 and a feature in Elle magazine up for grabs, competition is intense.
Project Catwalk airs on Sky One at 8pm every Thursday. Burnham-On-Sea.com is following Matt’s progress during the series.
