A long-serving Burnham-On-Sea shop staff member was given a welcome surprise this week as she retired from her role.
Previous staff from the past 25 years gathered outside Material Needs in Burnham’s High Street to wish Katharine Edwards well in her retirement and by the shop’s current owners, Nick Hebborn and Nicky Garland, as pictured here.
Nick said: “Material Needs has been in Burnham for more than 25 years, with Katharine and John Edwards in charge from July 2003 until October last year when Nicky and I took over.”
“Former and current staff came along to wish Katharine well in her retirement. They included John, who previously ran the shop with Katharine, Debbie Drinkwater, who worked in the shop from 1998 until this August, and Nancy Caldin, who worked at Material Needs from 2008 until September this year.”
He added: “Our new team, who have all joined in the last few months, are Sandra John, Lynn Smith and Sheana Austin. Katharine will also be continuing to run our repairs and alterations service.”
“We have invested heavily in refurbishing the shop and have significantly extended our wool, habby and fabric ranges in the year since we took over and have just launched our own loyalty card. We all intend that Material Needs is around for many years to come!”
