Marrow growing contest for budding young gardeners in Burnham

-

Children in the Burnham-On-Sea area have been invited to enter a marrow growing competition at a Brent Knoll garden centre.

Sanders Garden World will be giving away marrow plants, while stocks last, to youngsters to take home and grow.

Dolly El-Mahdi, Deputy Manager of Sanders Garden World, explained: “We will be giving away a free marrow plant to any youngsters who visit us during our Vegetable and Allotment Weekend from Saturday May 5th until Bank Holiday Monday May 7th.”

“The children will then be invited to come back to the garden centre in September to take part in a special competition to see who has grown the biggest marrow. The child that has grown the largest one will win a £10 voucher to spend at the garden centre.”

During the weekend staff will be on-hand to offer tips on selecting, planting and caring for different fruit and vegetables, as well as giving complimentary advice on how to protect plants and produce from pests.

“Representatives from Burnham-On-Sea Allotments will be demonstrating how to plant all sorts of different vegetables. They will also be available to give advice to people who are interested in starting their own plot.”
