A Huntspill councillor has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours this weekend.
County and district councillor Mark Healey, who is also Chairman of Devon and Somerset Fire Authority, has received the honour for services to fire safety and fire service reform.
The awards come on the occasion of Her Majesty’s official ninetieth birthday, and recognise the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people right across the United Kingdom.
Mark, pictured here on Saturday on the town’s seafront, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m very proud and humbled to have received it.”
“It’s superb recognition for all the work I have done with the fire service and also more recently with a nationwide ‘fire kills’ campaign to promote fire safety in homes which I hope has helped to save many lives.”
He added: “I opened the letter six weeks ago and was so delighted and humbled to receive it.”
“It’s wonderful recognition for the work done by the fire service across Devon and Somerset and I accept it on behalf of all those in the organisation.”
