Man charged with murder following death and crash near Burnham

-

A 50-year-old man has been charged following the murder of a woman in Glastonbury and a dramatic car crash near Burnham-On-Sea last week.

Neil Winn of Watts Corner, Glastonbury is to appear at Taunton Deane Magistrates Court on Monday March 2nd.

The charge relates to an incident in a property in Watts Corner, Glastonbury, on Thursday February 26th when a woman aged 45, was found dead. A post mortem confirmed she had died from multiple stab wounds.

Detectives, who have been questioning him since the incident on Thursday, said the murder charge related to ‘an incident’ at a house in Watts Corner, Glastonbury, on Thursday morning.

“A post-mortem confirmed she had died from multiple stab wounds,” a police spokesman said.

Police have not yet formally identified the victim, but have confirmed they were called by paramedics to reports of an assault on a woman at around 8.30am on Thursday. Ambulance crews were tragically unable to save her.

Emergency services were later called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash 13 miles away in the village of Mark, near Burnham-On-Sea, pictured here, where a car which had been seen leaving the house had crashed.

A man inside had to be cut free from the wreckage and was transferred to hospital. Police confirmed a 50-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death at the house.

Detective Inspector Lorna Dallimore said: “Our sympathies are with the family at this distressing time and a specially-trained officer is giving them support.”

“We have not yet completed a formal identification of the woman and have not yet had confirmation of the cause of her death. My officers continue to carry out inquiries and I would ask anyone with information about either incident to contact us on 101,” she said.
