Burnham residents’ anger as vandals smash windows in 4am attack

-

Worried residents living along a Burnham-On-Sea road have this week called for police action to stamp out vandalism after several homes had their windows smashed.

One home owner in Marine Drive had her windows smashed for no apparent reason at 4am earlier this week.

Heather Harrison, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was terrifying. The vandals threw handfuls of gravel at the window and it smashed with a horrible noise. I looked out to see them running away in the direction of Highbridge.”

“None of us deserve this – the police have had a lot of complaints and something needs to be done urgently.”

Last year, Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report how almost 100 Marine Drive residents had signed a petition calling for anti-social behaviour to be tackled along the busy road.

Burnham Marine councillor Joe Leach told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “I am horrified at the level of anti-social behaviour these residents are having to put up with. Not only boy racers at late hours, but cases of mindless vandalism.”

“It is cruel and unfair, and it’s about time something was done to stop it. The only way to tackle the speeding problem here is with an Average Speed Camera (ASC) from the County Council and a Local Action Team to tackle vandals and the like.”

He said that a rally is being planned for a later date to express the residents plight, and to show “that enouh is enough.”
