The £360,000 project to revamp Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove gardens has taken another step forward this week with the formal submission of a planning application for the scheme.
The scheme covers the restoration of two timber shelters, plus the restoration of an existing public open space including surfacing, a sundial feature, fencing and new street furniture.
The proposals, which have been submitted by Sedgemoor District Council, will be considered by councillors over the coming weeks. The deadline for feedback on the scheme is March 5th.
Sedgemoor District Council has pledged £35,000 to the scheme as part of a Heritage Lottery Funding bid for a total of £362,900. Other cash committed includes £14,500 from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and £16,000 from waste company Viridor.
Last June, the project was given a huge boost when it won £29,500 of ‘first round’ funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund.
