Just over a hundred people have signed an online petition calling on the Prime Minister to back plans to revamp Burnham-On-Sea’s Marine Cove Gardens.
A total of 107 people added their names to the official Downing Street website here by the time the petition closed earlier this week.
Unfortunately, because fewer than 200 people signed the petition, it may not actually be seen by Gordon Brown.
The Downing Street website states: “Once a petition has closed, usually provided there are 200 signatures or more, it will be passed to officials who work for the Prime Minister in Downing Street, or sent to the relevant Government department for a response.”
In recent times the shelters have fallen into disrepair and are boarded up to prevent further deterioration.
Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report here how two youths had been arrested following continuing vandalism in the gardens.
The petition was launched by Sedgemoor District Council earlier this summer to gather support for the £670,000 scheme to renovate the gardens.
In March, the council made a submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund’s ‘Parks For People’ programme.
The bid covers bringing back lost features such as a sundial, water fountain and seating, plus restoring the shelters and more.
