Burnham-On-Sea’s newly-refurbished Marine Cove gardens are to be officially opened this afternoon (Saturday, December 10th) during a special ceremony.
The Friends of Marine Cove is holding an afternoon of celebrations from 3pm to mark the completion of the £360,000 two-year project to refurbish the gardens.
Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Cllr Gill Slocombe will formally open the facilities alongside Burnham-On-Sea’s Carnival Queen, Jenny Yip, and her princesses.
From 3.30pm, there will be entertainment in the gardens by Burnham’s Mudlarks Community Choir, Burnham Dreamscheme and Berrow’s Fei Lung Kwan Kung Fu group.
A special mini-production of ‘The Night before Christmas’ will also be performed, which will followed by carols by candlelight from 4pm.
The refurbishment project was part-funded with £344,200 from the Heritage Lottery Fund plus grants from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Viridor and Sedgemoor District Council.
The work has included new landscaping, walls, fencing, lighting, paving, seating and water features.
“The gardens will be filled with the sound of voices, festive music and singing – it will be a wonderful event to mark the opening of these newly refurbished gardens,” one of the organisers, Harley Cook, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
