The winner of a competition to design a new logo for The Friends of Marine Cove was named by the judges on Thursday (July 21st).
Sam Morris from Churchfield School in Highbridge was announced as the overall winner and was presented with a prize of £50 by Richard Young, Chairman of the Friends of Marine Cove, and Phoebe Harling, the group’s Treasurer.
The logo has been reproduced as a usable computer image for printing onto T-Shirts and will be used in the marketing of the refurbished seafront gardens.
When Sam was asked why he had chosen the design, he said: “I have used a frog on a lily pad because everytime someone says garden, I think of that and I think it suits the name.”
The Friends of Marine Cove judges particularly liked its simplicity and the colours that were used, which links to the pond feature in the garden and the water lillies.
The level of entry in the competition was very high and supported by all the schools in Burnham and Highbridge, making the decision a difficult one.
Community Gardener Jacqui Strong told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am pleased with the response we received from the schools and I am looking forward to having the logo printed on the T-Shirts for myself and other volunteers who assist with the garden. I hope that the children will pay us a visit when the garden is finished and hopefully be involved in some of the events we are planning for the future.”
