Residents in Highbridge have this week voiced concern over a developer’s new plans to build 95 new homes on the site of a boat yard next to the River Brue.
Property Link has applied for outline planning permission to construct eighty five 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses plus a further ten 1-bedroom flats at the site pictured here.
The proposals centre around land to the west of 67 Clyce Road currently used as a boat yard and storage area for motor homes.
Highbridge county councillor John Woodman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m in all favour of new houses and construction jobs in Highbridge, but the infrastructure has to be properly expanded at the same time. We need the developers to fund more vital facilities such as schools, doctors and dentists surgeries if the population is to grow.”
Highbridge district councillor Joe Leach added that he too is “very cautious” about the proposals.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have concerns about the proposed access to this development via Sparks Way. This narrow road would not be able to handle the additional traffic and I’m not convinced the developer has fully considered how to provide access to so many extra vehicles. We need a lot more detail before being able to assess this application.”
The development on the 1.19 hectare site would also incorporate the provision of new flood defences.
Local residents have until December 23rd to provide comments on the scheme to Sedgemooor District Council.
