Bitterly cold weather and flurries of snow failed to halt Burnham-On-Sea’s latest beach clean when it took place on Saturday morning (March 17th).
Over 30 volunteers braved the chilly conditions to take part in the clean-up of the beach around Burnham Sailing Club, as pictured here.
Mark Hollidge from the Friends of Burnham Beach said: “In spite of weather threatening to freeze fingers and toes, 33 keen volunteers turned up to once more clear up the debris washed up by the sea.”
“As the snowflakes swirled away, the team concentrated on clearing away an abundance of small plastic pieces – the type that cause so much harm to fish and wildlife. Amongst the more odd items recovered were a large, heavy industrial mallet, a couple of plastic drums and several plastic bread baskets.”
The Friends of Burnham Beach expect to be back in action in late April, with details to be announced.
