Burnham runners gear up for London Marathon despite Boston bombs

-

Three Burnham-On-Sea runners will be taking part in the London Marathon this weekend despite the Boston Marathon explosions earlier this week.

Harriers Club members Jason Vickers, Sue Nicholls and Alison Salvador (pictured right) will be running the 26 mile marathon to raise cash for their nominated charities.

Security has been stepped up for Sunday’s London race in the wake of the American bombings, which killed three people and injured dozens.

Jason told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am shocked that this happened at such a big event. I think London will be OK and I hope people are not put off going or running. I just feel for the families and the runners who got hurt.”

Jason has gained sponsorship pledges of over £3,000 from supporters towards the Multiple Sclerosis Society by taking part in this year’s event. Alison will be running for CLIC and Sue will be running for Cancer Research.

The three Burnham runners will take part in a 30-second period of silence at the start of Sunday’s marathon in memory of those killed and hurt in Boston.
