Two Burnham-On-Sea runners who took part in Sunday’s London Marathon have raised more than £4,000 for charity.
Jason Vickers, 36, (pictured) who has suffered from Crohn’s Disease for the past 13 years, ran the 26-mile course in six hours, 19 minutes – raising a huge £3,000 for charity.
The money will be split between Crohn’s In Childhood Research Association (CICRA), Whizz Kids and Weston Hospice Care.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was over the moon to finish. I’d only ever run 23 miles in training before and my ankles started to ache after 20 miles. But it was all well worth it.”
He thanked his training partner Nick Terry, Burnham Harriers for their support, and all those who sponsored him.
Meanwhile, Andy Clements from Burnham on Sea Rugby Club (pictured) raised between £1,000 and £1,500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
He completed the marathon in four hours, 46 minutes.
Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday, he said: “I’m feeling it now, but the run itself was great.”
“The start was tough. There were so many people that I didn’t actually start running until a mile in. The crowds were brilliant, though. Very supportive. It’s definitely an event that I’d like to run again one year.”
