New art and design course to begin in Highbridge this week

-

A unique art and design course that aims to help people create Buddhist and Hindu art will be held in Highbridge later this month.

The fun ‘first steps’ sessions on creating Mandala artwork will start on 17th September and last for five sessions of two hours.

“During the short course you will be shown examples of Mandala art and learn about their history. You will be presented with a wide selection of pre-designed Mandalas to colour and paint and a varied selection of colourful source books to view,” said Richard Mathews from the organisers Sedgemoor Community Partnership.

“During the second part of this course you will be encouraged to create your own personal Mandala design. Experience in drawing and design is not a requirement – you will have lots of guidance and support from the tutor to enable you to create an attractive and meaningful artwork.”

The sessions will be run at Morland Hall in Highbridge by Sedgemoor Community Partnership for 19+ local applicants.

Learners will need to complete an enrolment form and an Individual Learning Plan. To book a place, pick up an enrolment form/details from either Morland Hall in Pearce Drive, Highbridge any Friday or contact Richard Mathews on 07827 647856 or email info@morlandhall.org.uk or visit Somerset Skills and Learning in Princess Street, Burnham.

The sessions will be held each Monday morning from 17th September until Monday 15th October from 10.30am – 12.30pm. Attendance will be required at each session.

Sedgemoor Community Partnership provides priority to people who can demonstrate they are in receipt of benefits, on low income or are not currently in work. For those who do not qualify for the free course, the total workshop cost is £40. A material cost of £3.00 is also applicable to all learners.

Angie Dibble will lead the training. After studying and working in Art and Design, she specialises in various art forms and teaches the subject regularly at adult classes in Somerset.
