Mamma Mia theme night raises £900 for Burnham-On-Sea Hospital

-

Over 110 people dressed in colourful sixties costumes flocked to the Oak Tree Arena at Edithmead on Saturday night (March 19th) for a fun-packed fundraising evening.

The ‘Mamma Mia’ themed event raised £900 for the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Hospital towards its work in helping improve the facilities.

The supporters enjoyed a disco, cabaret and buffet plus various fundraising activities throughout the evening.

Tony Deahl, the Chairman of the Friends of Burnham Hospital, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The sixties theme brought out some wonderful costumes and everyone had a fun evening.”

“We were delighted to raise over £900 on the night and also sign up 43 new members for the Friends of Burnham Hospital.”

Last year, it made a huge £310,000 contribution towards the total £800,000 cost of refurbishing the hospital.

Recently, a new ophthalmoscope for the Ophthalmology Department to assist with the examination of children’s vision, was also bought.

Mr Deahl added: “The annual subscription to the Friends is only £5 and, as well as helping to provide much needed funds, membership is important as it shows support for our local hospital in these difficult economic times.”

The group has just published a new leaflet to publicise its work. These can be picked up at various places around Burnham, including the hospital, doctor’s surgeries, opticians and community centre or by calling 01278 783121.
