Major roadworks on the M5 motorway between Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater are on track to finish before Christmas, motorists have been reassured this week.
Skanska, on behalf of Highways England, is currently carrying out central barrier replacement work on the M5, and the work has led to long queues in both directions at peak times for the past month.
Highways England says the roadworks will definitely be removed before the Christmas rush.
Julian Strong, the regional manager for Highways England, said this week: “We are definitely going to be off before the Christmas getaway that is a busy and important time for people.”
“We are on track, things are going well. I do empthasis with motorists who are held up in the queues but these changes will make the M5 safer.”
A spokesman added: “We apologise for any inconvenience or disruption the work may cause and will of course make every effort to ensure that the impact on the local community is kept to the absolute minimum.”
