Long queues of traffic built up on the M5 motorway between Burnham-On-Sea and Weston on Sunday afternoon (March 16th) following a crash.
A car and van collided on the southbound carriageway, leading to the van ending up on its side in the undergrowth besides the motorway.
Emergency services were called to the scene with Police and ambulance crews seen by passing motorists before Sedgemoor Services along the southbound carriageway between junctions 21 and 22.
National Highways said all traffic had been held due to the collision. It added delays were “in excess of 60 minutes with five miles of congestion.” Recovery was completed by 5pm when all lanes were re-opened.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson confirmed: “We were called at 1.45pm to a collision on the M5 southbound between Junction 21 and 22. Emergency services were at the scene.” It was not immediately clear if any injuries had been sustained.
