Gale force winds swept through the Burnham-On-Sea area on Tuesday, blowing the roof off this lorry on the M5 motorway and causing other damage.
The 65mph winds took the roof off this Co-Op lorry on the northbound carriageway between junction 22 at Burnham and junction 23 at Highbridge.
“Two lanes were closed while police and the Highways Agency were on scene, causing delays of around 30 minutes for traffic heading northbound,” police spokeswoman Cath Foster told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
She added that no-one had been hurt in the incident, which happened at around 11.15am during the height of the winds.
Elsewhere, several trees and branches were blown down in the storms and several lights were damaged in Burnham town centre. The heavy rain left slippery driving conditions.
The Met Office today issued a severe weather warning for the whole of the Westcountry from 3am to 6pm on Tuesday. The weather warning, the lowest of three on the Met Office system, urges people to ‘be aware’ with travel disruption likely.
