M5 in Somerset re-opens after serious overnight collision

-

The M5 in Somerset has re-opened after being closed in both directions between J24 (Bridgwater) and J23 (Dunball) due to a serious collision earlier this morning (Sunday March 23rd).

National Highways said the M5 has now reopened southbound between J23 and J24.

The M5 initially shut just before 3am following the serious collision which involved a lorry and a woman was later confirmed to have died by Police.

A Police spokesman says: “Emergency services are at the scene of a serious collision on the M5 near Bridgwater.”

“We were called at 2.48am today (23 March) to reports of the incident, on the northbound carriageway between junctions 24 and 23.”

“The police, ambulance and fire services are at the scene.”

A full diversion is in place with traffic being diverted by Police along alternative routes.

M5 cameras show Police diverting traffic off the motorway.
