M5 motorway traffic was brought to a standstill south of Burnham-On-Sea on Monday morning (January 2nd) following a nine-car collision.
This was the scene on the M5 Northbound between junctions 23 and 24 shortly after 11am, which caused long tailbacks for Bank Holiday motorists.
Three fire appliances plus a special rescue tender from Bridgwater and Taunton were sent, but fortunately there were no serious injuries.
“Upon arrival there were found to be a total of nine vehicles involved although none were seriously damaged, no airbags were deployed, and no persons were seriously injured or trapped,” said a fire spokesman.
“Fire crews assisted the occupants from their vehicles to a place of safety and cordoned off lanes two and three, then set about making all vehicles involved safe.”
