Two rescued from car ‘severely buried in undergrowth’ next to M5

-

Burnham-On-Sea fire crews have rescued two people stuck in a car that was ‘severely buried in deep undergrowth’ after it careered off the M5 motorway early today (Friday).

The crash on the M5 northbound between J22 for Burnham and J21 for Weston was reported just after 1.50am.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We received a request from the Police to assist them on the M5 to reports of a road traffic collision.”

“One fire appliance from Burnham-On-Sea and a Rescue Tender from Taunton were sent to the incident.”

“On arrival, the crews confirmed that this was a single vehicle, which had left the carriageway and was severely buried in undergrowth.”

“Crews cut away using small tools and with the aid of a triple extension ladder were able to release the two casualties from the vehicle.”

Both casualties were handed over to Paramedics on scene to be checked over and duty of care was left with the Police.
