Burnham-On-Sea fire crew tackles M5 car blaze

-

Two fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to a vehicle blaze on the hard shoulder of the M5 motorway near the town on Monday evening (February 25th).

On arrival, the crews confirmed that the car was well alight.

Two Burnham firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control at around 6.10pm.

“The fire is believed to have been caused by a blown engine part causing oil to go onto the manifold,” said a fire spokesman.

“The engine compartment was 90 per cent destroyed by fire and heat and the passenger compartment received 85 per cent damage by heat smoke and fire.”
